Lived on Earth 72 million years ago: a new species of titanosaurus found in Spain (photo)

A partial skeleton of a new species of Titanosaurus was discovered in Spain at the Lo Hueco fossil site in Cuenca. This long-necked giant lived on Earth about 72 million years ago.
The new species was named Qunkasaura pintiquiniestra. This name is associated with the place of discovery and characters from Spanish literature. More details about this discovery can be found in an article published in the journal Communications Biology.

Like other titanosaurs, Qunkasaura had a long neck and tail, as well as characteristic bone plates on its body.
This discovery is important for understanding the evolution of titanosaurs. Scientists have found that Qunkasaura belongs to a group of sauropods called Titanosauria, which had a skin-like shell.

Interestingly, some of the characteristics of the Qunkasaura skeleton are similar to those of eolosaurs that lived in South America. This suggests that similar features could have evolved independently in different groups of dinosaurs.
Scientists believe that Qunkasaura and other dinosaurs found in Lo Ueco inhabited Europe at a time when it was a large archipelago. This allows us to better understand how these giant animals evolved in isolated conditions.
As a reminder, an extremely rare lobster was found off the coast of Britain, which occurs once in 100 million.
