How to light a barbecue fire: instructions for beginners

Summer is the time for picnics, hikes, and flavorful barbecues in the fresh air. You can cook it not only at home but also outdoors, even without a specially equipped place. Hlavred writes about this.
How to make a fire for barbecue:
Choosing firewood:
- Fruit trees (apple, pear, cherry) are best suited because they give the barbecue a pleasant flavor.
- It is not recommended to use coniferous trees, because the resin contained in them can spoil the taste of meat.
- You can use ready-made charcoal for barbecue, which is easy to find in stores or prepare yourself.
Lighting the grill:
- Pour a small amount of charcoal into the grill.
- Make a pile in the center and place a dry fuel tablet or sprinkle lighter fluid on it.
- Light the fuel and wait for the coals to catch fire.
- Add more coals, calculating the amount you need.
Types of barbecue:
There are different types of barbecue:
- Classic: from lamb marinated in spices (salt, pepper, vinegar).
- Pork: from neck, ribs, carbonade.
- Chicken: from from fillets, drumsticks, wings.
- Fish: from salmon, trout, mackerel.
- Vegetable: from eggplant, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes.
Lighting the coals:
- Experienced barbecue cooks recommend using a lighter fluid (approximately 100 ml per 1 kg of charcoal).
- Soak the coals in the liquid and light the fire in several places.
- The coals are ready when a gray coating appears.
Lighting raw firewood:
- In wet weather, you can start a fire with vegetable oil and lighter fluid.
- Lay out the firewood, pour oil over it, add lighter fluid, and light it.
- The oil will ensure long-lasting burning, and the lighter fluid will ensure a stable flame.
Tip:
- To make the kebab juicy, it is better to marinate the meat beforehand.
- Don't turn the kebab often to prevent it from losing juice.
- Use wooden skewers for kebabs, as they give the meat a pleasant flavor.
