It's a sin to throw it in the trash: scientists have found out how to use banana peels for good

Many people throw away banana peels, not knowing that they are not only useless waste but also a valuable resource. A recent study has shown that banana peels can be used to make baked goods that taste just as good, if not better, than wheat-based products.
The study was published in ACS Food Science & Technology. It reveals the possibility of turning banana peels into flour.
How it works:
- Banana peels are blanched to remove unwanted flavor and kill germs.
- Then they are dried to remove excess moisture.
- The dried peels are ground into flour.
Benefits of using banana flour:
- Increased nutritional value: Banana flour is rich in fiber, magnesium, potassium, and antioxidants that wheat flour does not contain.
- Reduced food waste: Using banana peels instead of wheat flour helps reduce food waste.
- Extend shelf life: Banana flour has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that can help extend the shelf life of foods.
Banana flour can be used in place of wheat flour in any baking recipe, such as cookies, cakes, bread, and pasta.
