80 million-year-old dinosaur eggs found in China: belong to new species and genus of dinosaurs

Paleontologists have made a sensational discovery at a construction site in Gangzhou, China. In 2021, researchers discovered a clutch of six eggs belonging to a completely new species of dinosaur that existed 80 million years ago.
Jiangxi Province is known among scientists as a real "treasure trove" of fossils. It was here, in the Ganzhou Basin, that a unique collection of fossils was found that attracted the attention of the world scientific community. This was reported by Interesting Engineering.
A joint research team from the China University of Geological Sciences and the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences conducted a large-scale three-year study. Using advanced non-destructive analysis methods, the scientists were able to study the structure and features of the eggs without any damage.
The result of the long work was the official recognition of a new genus and species of dinosaurs - Minioolithus ganzhouensis. Particularly impressive was the fact that one of the eggs, measuring only 29 mm, entered the Book of Records as the smallest dinosaur egg ever discovered in the history of paleontology.
The discovery not only expands our understanding of the diversity of dinosaurs, but also provides unique information about their nesting behavior. The well-preserved nest allows researchers to better understand the life cycles of these ancient animals.
The publication of the research results in the authoritative scientific journal Historical Biology confirms the significance of this discovery for the world paleontological science.
