Cat pees on the bed: what to do and what causes it
It's not only unpleasant, but it can also be a signal of a health problem.

Has your furry pet "marked" the bed again? It's not only unpleasant, but it can also be a signal of health problems.

RBC-Ukraine reveals 10 reasons why a cat may urinate on the bed and shares tips on how to wean it off this bad habit.

Possible reasons:

Medical problems:

  • Urolithiasis: The formation of stones or crystals in the urinary tract can cause discomfort and frequent urination, forcing the cat to look for other places to urinate.
  • Urinary tract infections: Inflammation of the bladder due to a bacterial infection can lead to similar problems.
  • Bladder tumors: Although rare, tumors can cause frequent urination and discomfort, prompting your cat to seek out soft places to urinate.
  • Kidney disease: impaired kidney function can lead to excessive urination due to the inability to concentrate urine.
  • Diabetes mellitus: uncontrolled blood sugar levels can cause increased thirst and urination.
  • Arthritis: In older cats, arthritis can make it difficult to use the litter box, forcing them to look for more comfortable places.

Psychological reasons:

  • Stress and anxiety: moving, changes at home, loss of a family member - all this can cause stress in a cat, which manifests itself, among other things, in uncleanliness.
  • Uncomfortable litter box: inappropriate size, dirt, unpleasant odor - all this can make a cat look for another place to use the toilet.
  • Age-related changes: Older cats can develop cognitive dysfunction, which leads to forgetting the location of the litter box.

Physiological reasons:

  • Urinary incontinence: Problems with urinary retention can be the result of trauma, neurological disorders, or other diseases of the urinary system.

What to do?

  • Consult a veterinarian: It is important to rule out the medical causes of the problem first. The veterinarian will conduct an examination, diagnose, and prescribe treatment.
  • Create a comfortable environment: provide the cat with a clean and comfortable litter box in a quiet place.
  • Show patience and understanding: it is not always easy to wean a cat from a bad habit, but with love and attention you can overcome this problem.

Remember: punishing your cat for a puddle on the bed will not solve the problem, but will only make it worse. It is important to eliminate the cause of the uncleanliness and create a favorable environment for the cat.
