When to fertilize carrots?
For the intensive growth and formation of large and sweet root crops, carrots need the following elements: nitrogen, potassium, boron and phosphorus. You can get them from ready-made complex fertilizers or prepare them yourself from organic ingredients. Most experienced gardeners choose organic fertilizers because they are environmentally friendly, safe for the soil and do not affect the taste of vegetables.
The scheme of fertilizing carrots:
- First feeding: during sowing.
- Second feeding: after the first shoots appear.
- Third feeding: 2 weeks after the second feeding.
- Fourth feeding: 10 days before harvesting.
How to feed carrots after germination?
The first feeding:
- When: 2 weeks after germination, when the carrots have 3-4 leaves.
- How:
- Ash: can be used both in dry form and in the form of a solution. To prepare a solution, dilute 100 g of ash in 10 liters of water, leave for 10 hours, then pour the solution under the root of the seedlings.
- Iodine: Dissolve 20 drops of iodine in 10 liters of water, and pour the solution over the bed with carrots in the aisle.
- Chicken manure: Dissolve 1 part of fresh chicken manure in 10 parts of water, let it brew for 10-12 hours to allow the ammonia to evaporate. Then dilute 1 part of the resulting solution in 10 parts of water, leave for another 12 hours and water the carrots between the rows.
- Infusion of weeds: Chop 2 parts of fresh weeds (nettle, dandelion, burdock, wormwood), pour 3 parts of water, and leave for 3 days in the sun, stirring occasionally. When the liquid stops foaming, dilute it with water in a 1:10 ratio and pour over the carrots.
Remember:
- Moisten the soil well before watering.
- It is not recommended to water carrots with cold water.
- Do not overfeed the plants, follow the recommended fertilizer dosage.
- Weed the beds regularly and remove weeds.
- Loosen the soil after watering.
