How to deal with clover on the lawn: effective life hacks
It not only spoils the appearance of the green carpet, but also displaces other grasses, making the lawn less stable.

Clover, although it looks like a pretty flower, can be a real headache for lawn owners. It not only spoils the appearance of the green carpet but also displaces other grasses, making the lawn less stable. Better Home and Garden writes about this.

Fortunately, there are several effective methods to help you get rid of clover on your lawn:

Create favorable conditions for the turf:

A healthy lawn will eventually crowd out weeds, including clover, on its own. To do this, it is important to:

  • Provide the soil with nutrients: Rich loam with good drainage is the ideal basis for a lush lawn.
  • Maintain an optimal level of moisture: Lawn grass needs about 2.5 cm of water per week from rainfall or irrigation.
  • Maintain the correct mowing height: The optimal height for a lawn is 7.5 cm. This will prevent clover and other weeds from getting enough sunlight to develop.

Fertilization:

  • Nitrogen fertilizers: Clover can collect nitrogen from the atmosphere on its own, which turf cannot do. Therefore, applying nitrogen fertilizers (synthetic or organic) will help the lawn grow stronger and displace the clover.
  • Compost: Spreading a thin layer of compost will enrich the soil with nutrients and promote better turf growth.

Herbicides:

  • Time of application: It is best to use herbicides against clover in the fall when the plant is storing nutrients for the winter.
  • Choice of herbicide: Choose selective herbicides designed specifically to kill clover without harming other grasses.

Protecting the environment:

  • Natural methods: Natural fertilizers (compost) and manual removal of clover are more environmentally friendly methods, although they are slower.
  • Pollinator protection: Clover is a source of food for bees and other beneficial insects. The use of chemical weed control methods can have a negative impact on the environment.

Remember that getting rid of clover in your lawn can take time and a comprehensive approach. Combining the above methods will help you create a healthy and beautiful weed-free lawn.
