In addition to making food taste better, regular salt can be your ally in the fight against clogs and unpleasant odors in the kitchen. Food debris, grease, detergents - all of these accumulate in the sink pipes over time, leading to clogs and unpleasant odors.

Don't rush to call a plumber, because you can remove the odor from the sink yourself with simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen.

What to do if the sink stinks

Take 1/4 cup coarse salt, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup white vinegar, and a liter of boiling water.

Mix the salt and baking soda in a container. Pour the mixture into the sink drain. Add boiling water and leave for a few minutes. Pour in white vinegar and leave for 2-3 hours. With this simple procedure, your sink will be free of clogs and unpleasant odors will disappear.

To enhance the effect, you can add a little lemon juice to the mixture.

Before using this method, make sure that there is no standing water in your sink. If the clog is severe, you may need to repeat the procedure.

Salt is also useful for those who are going on vacation. An unpleasant odor may appear in the sink due to stagnant water. Experts advise pouring a few tablespoons of salt into the drain hole and covering the hole with cork. When you come back from vacation and open the sink, the unpleasant odor of stagnant water will be gone.
