In the UK, a 12-year-old boy Rowan Brennan made an incredible discovery while walking his dog with his mother in a field. Instead of the usual finds, he came across a gold bracelet from the Roman era, which researchers suggest could have been a reward for military service during the Roman conquest of Britain.

The discovery, made in the coastal village of Pegham in West Sussex, has aroused great interest among scholars. Unlike most Roman-era jewelry, this shining bracelet was probably not a woman's accessory, but belonged to a man who received it as a military award for bravery, Live Science writes.

According to the Chichester local council, the cuff bracelet is an exceptional and rare find for Roman Britain, especially since it is made of gold.

The find was handed over to a local officer of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, a project run by the British Museum that catalogs archaeological finds discovered by the public. Recent analysis has revealed that the bracelet is made of sheet gold and dates from the first century AD, coinciding with the period of the Roman invasion of the British Isles under the leadership of Emperor Claudius in 43 AD.

The bracelet is currently stored in a folded form, but if unfolded, it will reach over 7 cm in length. Known as an armilla bracelet, this type of jewelry was a "military award" given for heroic deeds during the Roman conquest of Britain. Later, such awards were replaced by cash payments.
