Color matters: cats with different coats are affectionate and hate people

The color of a cat's coat can indeed be a sign of its character. However, you should also take into account the breed of the animal.
British biologist and cat expert Roger Tabor says that cats with gray hair are usually aloof and don't like human company, while red cats will envelop their owners with tenderness and love, BBC reports.
"Cat genes responsible for fur color do not work the same way as human genes responsible for hair color," the researcher says.
Scientists have long noticed that cats with different coat colors can have different personality traits. And although there are no final conclusions yet, research suggests that ginger cats may indeed be more affectionate, brave, and sociable than their counterparts of other colors.
The secret is in the genes
The color of a cat's coat is determined by genes located on the X chromosomes. Since males have only one X chromosome and females have two, the probability of having a ginger cat is much lower than that of having a red cat. This explains why ginger cats are more common and tend to be larger and heavier than their brothers of other colors.
Personality and size
Studies have shown that ginger cats are more likely to exhibit the following personality traits:
- Affection and friendliness: Red cats tend to be more affectionate and like to cuddle with people.
- Courage: They are less fearful and more risk-taking than cats of other colors.
- Sociability: Red cats are more likely to vocalize and communicate with people.
Scientists believe that these character traits may be related to the larger size of ginger cats. Their physical strength may give them more confidence and courage, and also make them more inclined to socialize with people.
Historical connections
Interestingly, ginger cats have been closely associated with the Vikings throughout history. Some research suggests that the Vikings may have deliberately spread ginger cats throughout Europe, valuing them for their bold nature and sociability.
Although research on the relationship between coat color and cat character is still ongoing, many indications suggest that ginger cats may indeed have a unique set of personality traits that make them affectionate, brave, and interesting companions.
