A useful friend: gardeners have suggested how hedgehogs are useful for a summer cottage

Many of us have seen wild hedgehogs on our plots. These prickly little animals sometimes become frequent visitors to our gardens and vegetable gardens. And for good reason, because hedgehogs can bring a lot of benefits to summer residents. Glavred writes about this.
Why is a hedgehog useful in the country?
- Hedgehogs are natural pest controllers. They eat slugs, snails, insects, and their larvae that harm plants. One hedgehog can eat up to 200 insects per night!
- Hedgehogs destroy mice and snakes. These little animals are not afraid of poisonous wasps and destroy their nests. Hedgehogs also destroy mouse nests and eat snakes.
- Hedgehogs are unpretentious in their diet. They do not need special food, they will find their own food on the site.
It is important to remember:
- Do not touch hedgehogs with your hands. These animals can carry dangerous diseases such as rabies.
- Do not feed hedgehogs milk. It can lead to digestive disorders.
- Do not overfeed hedgehogs. It is important for them to get food on their own so as not to lose their hunting instincts.
What should you do if a hedgehog settles on your site?
- Create favorable conditions for it. Hedgehogs like to hide in dense thickets, under bushes or in tree hollows.
- Do not use chemical plant protection products on your property. These chemicals can be poisonous to hedgehogs.
- Watch hedgehogs from a distance. Do not scare them or try to pick them up.
