Peony is not just a beautiful flower with a heady aroma, it is also a valuable raw material for making delicious dishes, healthy drinks, and cosmetics. It can be used to make jam or a skin scrub. Glavred writes about it.
What to do with faded peonies?
Don't rush to throw away these amazing flowers! They can be used for cooking:
- Jam: incredibly tasty and healthy, from pink petals of fragrant varieties.
- Syrup: a great base for cocktails, punch, desserts.
- Tea: with healing properties that helps with colds and removes toxins.
- Scrub: sugar or salt, to exfoliate and moisturize the skin.
- Seeds: rich in nutrients, used in cooking and as a protective amulet (according to folk beliefs).
How to make peony jam:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups of peeled peony petals
- 3 cups of water
- 3 cups of sugar
- juice from half a lemon
Instructions:
- Rinse the petals and remove the greens and stamens.
- Boil the water.
- Pour boiling water over the petals, cover with a towel, and leave overnight.
- The next morning, drain the water, squeeze out the petals, and discard them.
- Add the sugar to the peony water, bring to a boil, and cook until the sugar dissolves.
- Add lemon juice, pour the syrup into bottles and store in the refrigerator.
How to make peony tea:
Pour a few peony petals with hot water, let it brew. Add rose petals and rose hips if desired. Drink with honey or sugar.
How to use peony seeds:
- As a seasoning: to flavor meat.
- Raw: to eat.
- To make a protective amulet: string them on a thread and carry them with you.
