Preparation:
Disconnect the air conditioner from the mains. This is the most important step that cannot be ignored to protect yourself from electric shock. Open the indoor unit cover of the air conditioner. As a rule, it is fixed with latches or screws. Remove the filters. They can usually be easily removed from the grooves.
Clean the filters:
Vacuum the filters. Remove all visible dust and dirt. Wash the filters in warm water using an air conditioner detergent. Do not use harsh chemicals that could damage the filters. Dry the filters thoroughly. Do not reinstall the filters into the air conditioner indoor unit until they are completely dry.
Cleaning the indoor unit:
Vacuum the indoor unit of the air conditioner. Remove dust and dirt from the fan blades, louvers, and other surfaces. Use a damp cloth to wipe the fan blades and other surfaces of the indoor unit. If necessary, moisten the cloth with an air conditioner detergent solution. Allow the indoor unit to dry completely.
Reassemble the air conditioner:
Replace the filters. Make sure that they are properly seated in the slots. Close the cover of the air conditioner indoor unit. Plug the air conditioner into the power supply.
