Researchers from the University of Arizona and the University of Texas at Austin have conducted a unique study that revealed an unexpected link between physical attractiveness and life expectancy. This opens a new perspective on the relationship between health and social status.

According to the results, people who are considered more attractive tend to live longer. These data were published in the journal Social Science and Medicine, storinka.com.ua reports .

More than 8300 high school students from Wisconsin took part in the study, and the information was collected for 65 years. The researchers compared the attractiveness ratings provided by independent experts based on photos with the mortality data of the participants.

Interesting details: men with a low level of attractiveness live on average one year less than their more attractive peers. In the case of women, the difference is even more pronounced: unattractive women live about two years less than their more attractive peers.

Explanation of the results

The researchers point out that the exact mechanisms that link physical attractiveness to life expectancy are still poorly understood. They suggest that good looks may be an indicator of overall health: people who look better usually have better health. In addition, attractiveness can contribute to more successful social interactions, which has a positive impact on the quality of life and, consequently, its duration.

Attractive people often receive social privileges, such as higher incomes, better treatment by others, and even lighter sentences in court. Sociologist Connor Sheehan of the University of Arizona believes that attractiveness may have a genetic component that also affects life expectancy. This discovery raises new questions about the relationship between our health, appearance, and social status in modern society.

Thus, it can be concluded that appearance not only shapes the way we are treated in society, but also likely affects our life expectancy. This study opens up new opportunities for scientific research and practice in the field of health, as exploring the link between attractiveness and longevity is only the first step towards a deeper understanding of human nature.
