Scientists have determined the age at which a person feels most unhappy

In developed countries, there is a tendency for people to feel the most unhappy at the age of 47 years and 2 months. However, after reaching 48 years and 2 months, this feeling seems to change to the opposite.
This conclusion was made by David Blanchflower, a professor of economics at Dartmouth College in the United States, who analyzed data from 132 countries around the world. This shows that the midlife crisis is not a myth. Gazeta.ua reports.
According to research by economist Blanchflower, a person's emotional well-being throughout life can be depicted as a curve resembling the shape of the letter U. This curve shows a change in the level of happiness with age, where the lowest point of happiness is reached at about 47-48 years.
"Despair rolls in gradually with age. This feeling comes, in particular, through the realization of impending old age. When a person is inclined to summarize some of life's results. During this period, a lot of things disappoint him, not allowing him to feel satisfaction from life and his environment. The possible lack of prospects at work or dissatisfaction with one's financial situation also gnaws at one's heart. In addition, by the age of 40, a decrease in testosterone levels in men and estrogen in women becomes more noticeable," explains Blanchflower.
At this age, many people feel the least satisfied with life, regardless of where they live or their health status.
However, one should not give up, because over time, the feeling of happiness tends to recover, the expert assures.
"The maximum point of the 'happiness curve', i.e. the age at which a person feels the happiest, occurs first at 20 and then at 70. That is, after the midlife crisis (47-48 years), better times will come. This is because people become wiser with age," says Blanchflower.
As people age, they start to focus less on material possessions and career advancement, and instead value time spent with family and friends. They find time for hobbies and well-deserved rest. To accelerate the recovery from a life crisis and improve mood, Blanchflower recommends healthy sleep, activity, and a balanced diet.
