Will not have any effect: what life hacks for personal care are better not to use

The world of beauty is constantly offering new tips and life hacks for face care. Some of them can be really useful, but others, at best, do not give any result, and at worst, can seriously harm your skin. Absolute Collagen's chief scientist, Dr. Dave Reilly, talked about some of them.
Here are some popular beauty life hacks to avoid:
Teaspoons for the eyes:
Applying cold teaspoons to your eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles can have a short-term effect, but it's a dangerous method. Severe cold harms the delicate skin around the eyes, causing irritation and aggravating the problem.
Alternative: Use a special nourishing eye cream to help relieve swelling and improve microcirculation.
Sugar scrubs:
Making homemade scrubs from sugar and coconut oil may seem like a frugal option, but it can lead to microtrauma to the skin. Sugars, even small ones, can scratch and damage the epidermis, causing irritation and rashes.
Alternative: Choose acid-based scrubs that gently and effectively exfoliate the skin without injuring it.
Toothpaste for acne:
Putting toothpaste on your pimples may seem like an easy way to get rid of them, but it can make things worse. Toothpaste contains harsh ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, surfactants, and alcohol that dry, irritate, and damage the skin, increasing inflammation.
Alternative: Use special acne treatments that contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or other active ingredients that fight bacteria and soothe the skin.
Lemon juice to lighten the skin:
Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, but its high acidity makes it dangerous to apply directly to the face. It can upset the pH balance of the skin, causing irritation, dryness, flaking, and damage to the skin barrier.
Alternative: Use lightening serums or creams that contain gentler and safer lightening ingredients, such as vitamin C, kojic acid, arbutin, or glycolic acid.
Remember that skin care is an individualized process. Not all the advice you find on the Internet will work for you. Before using any new products or methods, it is recommended that you consult a dermatologist to get professional advice and find the best skincare regimen for your skin.
