The end of life on Earth: scientists announce possible date of catastrophe

Scientists predict that in the future, the Earth's atmosphere may return to its previous state, which will cause a sharp decrease in oxygen levels and lead to the death of most life on the planet.
This is reported by sciencealert.com, citing a study published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
To reach their conclusions, scientists have created detailed models of the Earth's biosphere, taking into account changes in the brightness of the Sun and a corresponding decrease in carbon dioxide levels, as this gas is destroyed by rising temperatures. The decrease in carbon dioxide will lead to fewer photosynthetic organisms such as plants, which in turn will reduce the level of oxygen in the atmosphere.

According to scientists, this process is likely to start no earlier than in a billion years, although it will happen quite quickly. This will lead to a return of the planet to conditions similar to those before the Great Oxidation Event about 2.4 billion years ago.
"The predicted model indicates that the decrease in atmospheric oxygen levels, which will lead to a sharp drop to values similar to the Archean Earth, is likely to be caused by the emergence of wet greenhouse conditions in the Earth's climate system and a significant loss of water from the atmosphere," the researchers said.
It is noted that this will be the end of existence for humanity and most other life forms that depend on oxygen.
