When to shower in the morning or in the evening: what science says

Daily showering is a habit of people who care about their body hygiene. Different experts have different interpretations of the need for daily body washing.
Experts have tried to figure out whether a person takes a shower too often or too rarely? Is the water too hot or too cold? What time of day is better to take a shower – in the morning, after sleep, or to wash off the day's dirt before going to bed.
What does a morning shower give you?
- Arousal: A cool shower in the morning can stimulate your body and help you wake up and focus. This is because cold water triggers the release of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, cortisol, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which improve mood and reduce stress levels.
- Reduced sickness: Studies have shown that a daily morning shower, even a short and cool one, can reduce sick days by almost a third, as well as improve quality of life and energy levels.
- Feeling clean: Many people feel refreshed and cleaner after a morning shower, washing away sweat and bacteria that have accumulated overnight.
Evening shower:
- Rinsing away dirt: This is a great way to wash away dirt, dust, pollutants, and other harmful substances that have accumulated during the day. This is especially important if you work out or have a physically demanding job.
- Preparing for sleep: A warm shower or bath before bed can help you relax and fall asleep faster. This is because warm water helps your body cool down, which is a natural cue for sleep.
- Improved skin condition: If you suffer from eczema or other skin conditions, an evening shower may be the best time to apply moisturizers and other treatments, as you'll have more time for them to take effect.
So, what time of day is the best time to shower? There's really no definitive answer. It depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and the needs of your skin.
Here are some factors to consider:
Your circadian rhythm – some people feel more refreshed and energized in the morning, while others feel more energized in the evening. If you are the former, a morning shower may be better for you. If you're a night owl, an evening shower can help you relax and get ready for bed.
If you're in a hurry in the morning, an evening shower might be a more practical option. On the other hand, if you're not in a hurry in the morning, a morning shower can be a great way to start the day.
