In Egypt, archaeologists have made a sensational discovery - the first astronomical observatory of ancient Egypt. This discovery provides a glimpse into the scientific knowledge and spiritual practices of the ancient Egyptians.

Excavations in the ancient city of Buto led archaeologists to a unique L-shaped structure dating back to the sixth century BC. Initially, it was mistaken for a temple, but a detailed study showed that it was a high-tech observatory by its standards, Live Science writes.

Sundials and celestial maps

Inside the observatory, scientists discovered a complex system for observing celestial bodies. In particular, they found a large sundial that allowed them to determine the time with high accuracy. In addition, archaeologists found stone maps depicting the movement of celestial bodies, which indicates the deep astronomical knowledge of the Egyptians.

The connection between astronomy and religion

The Observatory was not just a scientific laboratory, but also a place of religious rites. Images of gods related to astronomy and space were found on the walls. This shows that for the Egyptians, astronomy was an integral part of their religion.

The opening of the observatory allows scientists to better understand how the ancient Egyptians perceived the world and how they used their knowledge of space to regulate their lives. It also confirms the high level of development of science and technology in ancient Egypt.
