Scientists discover in Turkey the exact location of the legendary battle of Macedon against the Persians

A historic discovery in Turkey: scientists have finally localized the site of the Battle of Granicus, where Alexander the Great won his first major victory over Persia. This epoch-making discovery ended years of searching for the site of the battle that changed the course of world history.
Professor Reyhan Korpe spent 20 years searching for the site of this decisive battle, where 90,000 soldiers died. The key to the solution was a thorough analysis of the route of the Macedonian army. The researchers recreated the path of the conqueror from the village of Ozbek through Umurbey and Lapseki to the Biga plain. This is reported by Interesting Engineering.
The Battle of Granicus, which took place in May 334 BC, was a turning point in the confrontation between the two empires. Alexander the Great, despite the warnings of Darius' advisors about the superiority of the Macedonian infantry, met the Persian army in open battle. This victory paved the way for further conquests that stretched as far as India.
The significance of this battle is hard to overestimate - it not only weakened the mighty Persian Empire, but also ushered in a new era in the history of the ancient world. Now the Turkish authorities are planning to turn this place into a tourist attraction as part of the Alexander the Great Cultural Route, allowing visitors to experience living history.
This discovery is the culmination of centuries of searching and will allow future generations to better understand one of the most important events in ancient history.
